Lacoste and Zaha Hadid to launch a shoes collection

Zaha Hadid might be famous for its futuristic architecture, but this famous iraqi architect established in London is also building a strong reputation in the fashion world. After designing a pavilion of touring art for Chanel and a pair of shoes designed for Melissa, Zaha Hadid is again applying its concept of structure to footwear designs, this time in collaboration with Lacoste.
In September, the famous crocodile maison will launch a shoes collection designed in partnership with Zaha. The project was submitted in October 2008 at the Frieze Art Fair, London, and the prototypes displayed at that time have now become the final version ready for production. Zaha Hadid designed the shoes based on the iconic crocodile logo, digitizing it and exploring it in a series of surfaces with repeated patterns. "The expressiveness of design behind this collaboration allows for a dynamic and fluid evolution of a metal mesh," says Hadid.

"When involved in the shape of the foot, the mesh expands and contracts to adapt to the body ergonomically and do constructs an element of landscape that is changing as the movement of the foot."

Ecology, economy and esthetic. The "Green Roofs" as they are known worldwide is a strong trend in architecture, and certainly a new way of living and to brighten the roof of buildings in big cities, where green spaces are increasingly scant or absent. Planting different types of vegetation on roofs of buildings helps the ecosystem, reduces pollution in major cities, and bring more harmony and welfare of residents.
The Green Roofs are an increasingly visible trend in big cities like New York, Vancouver, Tokyo, Singapore and Toronto. In Toronto it was created a plan to encourage Green Roofs, which includes both its installation in existing buildings as in those be constructed, in order to achieve 50% to 75% of coverage.

In addition to considerably improve the view of the big cities, the Green Roofs have many benefits for the environment, and especially the quality of human life.

Wiki: Gabrielle Coco Chanel

Picasso called her "the woman with the most sense in Europe". George Bernard Shaw gave her the title "fashion wonder of the world". Inarguably unique, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel developed her own creativity to become an uncompromising visionary, the designer who invented 20th century women's fashion.

Gabrielle Chanel took on this nickname after her 1905 performance of the song "Qui qu'a vu Coco dans le Trocadero" for a crowd of uniformed admirers at La Rotonde, a music hall in a small provincial town.

At a time when it was unheard of for women to call the shots, Chanel founded an internationally successful business. This avant-garde attitude earned her a coterie of creative virtuosos.
Picasso, Salvador Dali, Stravinsky and Diaghilev were just a few of the admirers who fell under the spell of her supreme talent and legendary wit. Whether as lovers, benefactors, or recipients of her own generosity Chanel attracted some of the most powerful, talented and eccentric men of her days.

Chanel was the first designer to create a boutique that offered its customers the chance to try out a "total look" in a non-fussy environment. The hundred shops bearing her name today continue her tradition of harmony and minimalism, allowing breathing space for the products - and the customers.

Chanel built her business from scratch, and all her life maintained the desire to remain staunchly independent. Today her company remains privately owned, making it something of a rarity in the luxury market. Mademoiselle Chanel's avant-garde thinking, which made The House of CHANEL unique at the beginning of the last century, is still modern today. "Nothing is as beautiful as an empty space. It needs to be properly furnished, with quiet things".

Chanel continues to transcend conventions and re-invent chic. Artistic director
Karl Lagerfeld assertively and whimsically pushed the boundaries of the unmistakable Chanel look, reacting intuitively to the speed of the changing times.

Wiki: Donatella Versace

Donatella Versace (born May 2, 1955) is an Italian fashion designer, as was her brother, the late Gianni Versace, the founder of the Versace clothing brand. Her current title is Vice-President of the Versace Group and Chief Designer of the fashion line. She owns 20 percent of the entire stock market assets ofVersace. Her brother, Santo Versace, owns 30 percent. Donatella's daughter Allegra Versace inherited 50% of the company stock after Gianni Versace died.

Early life and fashion debut

In the mid 1970s, Donatella followed her older brother, Giovanni ("Gianni"), to pursue knitwear design in Florence, Italy. Donatella had planned to work for her brother as Public Relations, but she was more valuable to Gianni as a "muse and critic", according to Donatella during an interview with Vogue.[2] Through her closeness to her brother's enterprises, Donatella plunged into the fashion world. A decade later, during the 1980s, Gianni launched a perfume dedicated to her, Blonde, and gave her her own diffusion label, Versus, which remains a well-known Versace inner line.

The growth of Donatella and Versace

Donatella soon proved to be the public relations giant within the Versace label and spread its name throughout Europe and most of the United States. Donatella chose to place some of her good friends, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Demi Moore, in high esteem in the Versace advertising sector, making them and other A-List celebrities the persona and image of Versace.

Promotion and success

A year and three days after Gianni's death in July 1998, Donatella Versace mounted her first couture show for the Versace Atelier at the Hôtel Ritz Paris. She built her runway over the hotel's swimming pool, as her brother had done every season, though this time using sheer glass. She now oversees the production of a dozen collections each year, though these days, Donatella is just as famous for her celebrity entourage and glittering parties. Regular guests include Sir Elton John, Liz Hurley, Rakeem Young, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Kate Moss. Even Prince Charles attends Donatella's parties for the famous and elite throughout Europe.

Popularization

Donatella has been regularly impersonated by Maya Rudolph on the American comedy skit show Saturday Night Live, which airs on the NBC network. Maya and Donatella are good friends.

She has held cameo performances in many films relating to fashion and its industry, such as Zoolander. Also, in many other films, including the 2006 hit The Devil Wears Prada, the mention of "Donatella" is used sporadically. In the new hit ABC series Ugly Betty a fictional character, Fabia, played by actress Gina Gershon, is a parody of Donatella.

She is also named as a highly publicized user of the Power-Plate.

New Magritte Museum in Brussels

The new Magritte Museum has opened in the centre of Brussels (watch the official video below). It contains the world’s largest collection of his work. More than 40 years after his death Magritte remains profoundly influential. His “pipe which was not a pipe” still fascinates art lovers.

Magritte often played with light and shade, and wanted to use his art to make people think about the “mystery without which the world would not exist". His outlook on real life however was sombre. He didn’t want children and used to say that “we are all in a cellar, without even a tiny window”.

Reflecting his work, the interior of the museum is dark blue and dimly lit to make the art stand out, and to provide a haven for visitors.

This is one of the museums that I want to go most now, I allways loved Magritte and I find this big. If you are in Brussels or if you are going there soon, going to Magritte Museum is a great thing to do for sure!

The legendary photographer Guy Bourdin is being honored in the "unseen Guy Bourdin" exhibition, in London's gallery The Wapping Project, until July 4. The exhibition includes pictures of Bourdin never exposed to the public before, including 32 works of his last parisian stage. At the exhibition there are some of his classic images that were published in fashion magazines. In many of those photos it shows Nicolle Meyer, the muse of Bourdin between 1977 and 1980.

Bio: Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) was one of the most famous fashion and advertising photographers during the second half of the twentieth century. He shared his taste for controversy and style with his colleague Helmut Newton, but the audacity and narrative power of his images exceed the limits of conventional advertising photography.

Through the landscapes of 54 countries captured from above, Yann Arthus-Bertrand takes us on an unique journey all around the planet, to contemplate it and to understand it. But HOME is more than a documentary with a message, it is a magnificent movie in its own right.

Every breathtaking shot shows the Earth - our Earth - as we have never seen it before. Every image shows the Earth's treasures we are destroying and all the wonders we can still preserve. "From the sky, there's less need for explanations". Our vision becomes more immediate, intuitive and emotional.

HOME has an impact on anyone who sees it. It awakens in us the awareness that is needed to change the way we see the world. (HOME embraces the major ecological issues that confront us and shows how everything on our planet is interconnected.

By bringing us unique footage from the Earth and sharing with us his wonder and his concern, Yann Arthus-Bertrand lays a foundation stone for the world that, together, we must rebuild. The film HOME intends to shift people's perceptions, to make us aware of the tectonic movements at work and to incite us to act.

More than a movie, HOME will be a major event around the globe: for the first time ever, a film will be released on the same day in over 50 countries.

June 5th 2009, World Environment Day has been chosen as the highly symbolic date for this simultaneous, and free of charge, release on every format: movie theatre, TV, DVD and Internet. The aim of director Yann Arthus-Bertrand, distributor Luc Besson and François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of PPR, the film's official sponsor, is to reach the widest possible audience, and to convince us all of our individual and collective responsibility towards the planet.

Dsquared² - Fall/Winter/09/10 Runway Show

These are my favourite looks of the Winter 09/10 collection by Dsquared². I totally love the dresses, I think that Dean and Dan are great dress creators and I think that they should work further on these kind of products. Plus,
just look at the details that show you how you can wear a leather jacket and a dress for an elegant party. You can do that when you're on your way to a party or after the party, for example. It's totally different outfits but they
combine extremely well. And the colors, are just beautiful. You almost never see any shining color on winter
collections, but they did it, and the final result is excellent.
About the men's collection, I don't find it this special. At all! I remember to have seen these kind of outfits in
previous collections. Maybe the suits are my favourite looks, I really love them all.
