|Viktor & Rolf Monsieur Spring/Summer 2014|
For their Spring/Summer 2014 Menswear collection, Viktor & Rolf were inspired by school uniforms. The seasonal silhouette comprises of slim fit garments: cropped, skinny trousers are combined with fitted, short jackets creating the sense of modern fashion suiting.
There is a strong emphasis on compact and technical jerseys with unexpected fabric combinations giving the collection its twist. Overall, the classic icons of Monsieur are seen here with new purpose: the pin-stripe tailored suit combined with motor leather bomber, cotton-blend suit paired with knee-length shorts versus trouser and the tuxedo paired with boldly-printed graphic t-shirt.
Classic school uniform details such as bindings, argyle prints and patches are re-interpreted: one-sides lapel detailing is a fresh approach, argyle appears bold and graphic and college patches are used excessively on denim.
The prints are inspired by old books and typefaces and add an ironic approach towards the collection and are a playful contrast to the stripes theme of the collection. The decorative yet functional use of zippers on garments is unexpected giving a technical and modern feel to the outerwear while relaxing denim, trousers and knitwear.
The color palette is mainly based on midnight, grey and white reflecting classic school uniform but includes flashes of electric blue.
Smart footwear completes the schoolboy attire featuring modern, lace-up brogues in patent leather, playful sneakers and high-tops and rebellious boots taking their tone from Dr. Martins.
