Mont-Blanc, Everest, Kilimanjaro and McKinley are four of the Seven Summits, the highest mountains on each of the seven continents and they are the inspiration for the Fall 2012-2013 candles collection by Baobab Collection.
In 1786, Dr Michel-Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat were the first to reach the top of Mont-Blanc. Of the high African peaks, Dr Hans Meyer conquered Mount Kilimanjaro in 1889. In 1913, an American, Hudson Stuck, ascended Mount McKinley in Alaska, the highest peak in North America.
The world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, was first climbed in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay. Reaching all Seven Summits is considered a mountaineering feat; Richard Bass was the first to achieve this distinction in 1985.
