Prada is hosting a major exhibition titled Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby, featuring selected costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and costume designer Catherine Martin for the film The Great Gatsby.
The Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby exhibition includes women's gowns, dresses, hats, shoes and jewelry as well as sketches, production stills, backstage footage and film trailers. The mannequins display looks for each character of The Great Gatsby coupled with video content drawn from the film and behind-the-scenes and a two hundred foot mural depicting a montage drawn from the fabulous party scenes showing Jay Gatsby’s Long Island mansion.
While working on the costumes for The Great Gatsby, Miuccia Prada realized how many pieces created for the Prada and Miu Miu runways in different seasons had a very '20s mood once integrated in the movie's direction. At once historical and utterly contemporary, the dresses are realized in brilliant iridescent metallic lamé, sequins, silk taffeta, dyed fur, velvet and styled with fantastical hats, shoes and accessories.
The exhibition opening on May 1st coincided with première of The Great Gatsby, which will also go on to open the 66th Cannes International Film Festival on 15th May, 2013.
